DIRECTOR’S NOTES

Shortly after wrapping on The Hideout, I waited in a small line for my coffee order and was inspired by how streamlined the world had become. I soon returned to the page and penned the first of 15 drafts for the short film that would become Alternating Current.

I approached Matt Bendo and he was ready to shoot another film. We had discussed many different references and visual styles but weren’t able to piece it together until the script was locked.

What started as a very poetic film evolved into an ambiguous but narrative science fiction short film. With more inspiration from the pandemic, films like The Matrix, and author George Orwell. Alternating Current slowly started taking shape. Listening to DJ and film score composer, David Holmes’ “Let’s Get Killed” pushed the script toward its final draft.

My older brother and musician, Tarek Jafar, showed interest in acting. As a performer myself, I played alongside him. It was my first time directing and acting in a film, but with the help of Matt Bendo and a reliable crew, we got through the fir

It was my first time directing and acting in a film, but with the help of Matt Bendo and a reliable crew, we got through the first day with their support and shot out my scenes before the second day of production where I was back behind the camera.

A big thank you to the Jackson family for allowing us to film on their farm. They allowed us to capture our film inside of a wonderful environment.

Alternating Current took time to craft and we are very proud of what we created.
